Welcome to Gillbank Cottage

With five bedrooms, one en suite, and two additional bathrooms, the property easily sleeps up to ten people. Recently renovated and refurbished, our Eskdale holiday cottage boasts the latest in modern convenience. We have made every effort to maintain the intimate features and charm of a classic Lakeland cottage.

Gillbank Cottage is the perfect Eskdale holiday cottage for self catering, right here in the Lake District. Gillbank is a pet friendly cottage, run by a family who have treasured the Lake District for almost 100 years. The cottage creates the perfect base for those wishing to explore the Lakes. Whether that is here on our doorstep in Eskdale, or further afield in the surrounding fells, mountains and lakes.

The cottage – which was once owned by renowned Lakeland poet William Wordsworth – boasts many period features. These include an early 18th-Century tapered porcelain bath and exposed oak beams. All of which have been maintained to compliment the building, which is over 400 years old. Our Eskdale holiday cottage really is a modern take on traditional self catering accommodation in the Lake District.

Stunning views of Scafell and the Eskdale Valley greet visitors from the windows and gardens of the cottage. These coax our guests outside to enjoy various outdoor activities, such as climbing, canoeing and of course walking.

There are numerous walks easily accessible from the cottage. It could be an ascent of Scafell, a leisurely stroll amongst the hills, rivers and tarns, or a quick trip to one of the three Lakeland pubs, which all serve food and are all within walking distance.

At the base of the hill is the Ravenglass & Eskdale miniature steam railway, which runs for seven miles to the coastal hamlet of Ravenglass. There is a stop available at Muncaster Castle & Gardens, a historic castle with a Hawk and Owl Centre. If you decide to venture further afield, there are many other lakes and seaside towns to visit that are only a short drive away.

So whether you are looking for a ‘staycation’, a traditional first visit to the Lake District with some modern touches, or you’re a regular visitor to our beautiful part of the world, Gillbank Cottage is your Eskdale holiday cottage for self catering accommodation in the Lake District.
